Cette biographie de référence éclaire d'un jour nouveau tout un pan de la vie intellectuelle du XXe siècle, celui de ces universitaires juifs allemands obligés de fuir le IIIe Reich et qui, d'étape en étape, finirent par trouver refuge aux Etats-Unis. Le livre associe la présentation des grandes étapes de la pensée et de l'œuvre de Hannah Arendt aux événements historiques qui la sollicitent et au tableau des amitiés et des cercles successifs. Si la liaison qu'elle eut brièvement au début (...) des années 30 avec Heidegger est désormais bien connue, d'autres aspects de son existence, pourtant du plus haut intérêt, le sont moins : son rapprochement avec le sionisme sous l'égide de Kurt Blumenfeld avant et pendant la guerre, son mariage avec Günther Stern, puis avec Heinrich Blücher, sa longue amitié aux Etats-Unis avec la romancière Mary McCarthy ou avec le poète W.H. Auden. Polémiste redoutable et critique cinglante, constante dans ses fidélités, et en premier lieu dans sa relation avec cette grande conscience allemande que fut Karl Jaspers, Arendt a traversé tous les débats du siècle, sans jamais céder ni sur son indépendance d'esprit ni sur sa lucidité : face au totalitarisme, dont elle forge le concept, mais aussi face au racisme et aux mouvements pour les droits civils aux Etats-Unis, face à la création de l'Etat d'Israël et au devenir du sionisme, face à l'engagement américain dans la guerre du Vietnam, face à la révolte de la jeunesse des années 60. Ne s'abandonnant jamais à la tentation aristocratique du retrait, elle accomplit une œuvre de pensée sans avoir besoin de décrier le monde, mais en prônant l'amour de la réalité, donnant ainsi l'image rare d'une vie de penseur à la hauteur de ses accomplissements spéculatifs. Adrian Miaskowski należy do wybitniejszych jezuitów polskich na przełomie XVII i XVIII w. Był pedagogiem, autorem Dialektyki, płodnym pisarzem w dziedzinie teologii, rektorem kilku kolegiów i prowincjałem jezuitów. W dotychczasowej literaturze istnieje na jego temat sporo dłuższych lub krótszych tekstów i wzmianek, a jego nazwisko figuruje w wielu encyklopediach i słownikach, na czele z Polskim Słownikiem Biograficznym. Jednakże jego poglądy filozoficzne nie były dotąd przedmiotem zainteresowania. Niniejsze krótkie opracowanie ma za cel wypełnić tę lukę. Zawiera biografię Miaskowskiego, przegląd treści Dialektyki (...) i zawartych w niej poglądów, oceny Dialektyki oraz omówienie elementów filozofii człowieka i filozofii Boga, zawartych w traktatach teologicznych Miaskowskiego. Bernard Lonergan's writings have not so far received much discussion in British philosophical journals, although they contain one of the most fully-developed contemporary presentations of Catholic Christianity and have a substantial and distinctive philosophical content. They have not lacked theological commentators, both in print and in conferencediscussions. The present article has three aims: to draw attention to Lonergan's work and its philosophical relevance; to notice the publication of his latest book, Method in Theology, and to venture some critical comments (...) on certain arguments about the intelligibility of being, being and the good, and God, in his book Insight. These arguments are central to Lonergan's account of theism, a theism which, in its orthodox Roman Catholic form, is presupposed by Method in Theology. The books are organically interrelated. Starożytne teksty judaizmu jasno opisują rozwarstwienie społeczne Izraela i wynikające z tego uwarunkowania religijne. Sposoby i możliwości realizacji religijnej w zależności od pochodzenia określa szczególnie wyraźnie judaizm rabiniczny. Wyższy status społeczny zapewniał większe możliwości samorealizacji religijnej, ale zobowiązywał też do większej odpowiedzialności wobec Boga i społeczności, nakładał również inne obowiązki w zależności od pochodzenia społecznego. Istotę judaizmu rabinicznego, zwanego także talmudycznym od głównego jego dzieła – Talmudu, określa Miszna, stanowiąca obok Gemary, jego zasadniczą i pierwszą część. Miszna zgodnie z jej (...) przeznaczeniem wskazuje sposób życia, który można by ogólnie określić mianem religijnego. Opisuje zarazem życie społeczno-religijne starożytnego Izraela sprzed czasu jej spisania, sięgając niekiedy nawet kilka wieków wstecz. (shrink)

Dialectique négative est l'œuvre maîtresse de Theodor W. Adorno et l'un des grands textes philosophiques de notre temps. On en comprendra peut-être mieux l'intention si l'on sait qu'Adorno était fasciné par l'idée de la bouteille à la mer : transmettre une vérité au monde sans la lui livrer, sans s'y donner complètement, sans se laisser prendre par le processus historique de récupération et d'assimilation. " Ce qui a été pensé peut être réprimé, oublié, se perdre, écrivait ainsi Adorno. Mais on (...) ne peut nier qu'il en reste quelque chose. Car le penser comporte un moment d'universalité. Ce qui a été pensé de façon pertinente doit nécessairement [...] être pensé par d'autres. " Si donc Dialectique négative ne livre ni soutien ni résultats enregistrables, elle a le mérite de contraindre les individus à l'insistance. Dans le développement du contenu, ce qu'il faut découvrir avant tout, c'est une attitude, un geste de pensée formulé de façon abstraite : " La dialectique est la conscience rigoureuse de la non-identité. " Il s'ensuit le refus de l'intégration de l'individu à toutes les totalités donatrices de sens, et le sauvetage de la singularité dans ce qu'elle préserve d'irréductible. Celui qui, aujourd'hui, lit Dialectique négative fait une expérience proche de celle des Athéniens que Socrate arrêtait, il y a un peu plus de 2000 ans, sur la place du marché, pour les arracher à leur affairement et les faire s'ouvrir à une interrogation abyssale.
